👑 Coldwater Queens 2025 - Champions Crowned! 👑

Updated 19:20 - 8th March 2025

The oars have stilled, the waters have calmed, and the results are in! After months of fierce competition across the nation's most challenging and icy waterways, we can finally announce the Coldwater Queens of 2025!

Today's Women's Eights Head of the River Race (WEHORR) served as the grand finale for our women's competition, with double points on offer and the top 100 crews earning valuable points for their clubs. The tension along the Thames was palpable as crews battled not just for WEHORR glory, but for those final crucial points in our inaugural Winter Rowing League.

🏆 The Coldwater Crown 👑 - Queens Division

After tallying all points from our regional events and today's WEHORR finale, we're thrilled to announce our overall Coldwater Queens champions:

  1. Leander Club - 575 points
  2. Thames Rowing Club - 500 points
  3. London Rowing Club - 458 points
  4. Newcastle University - 416 points
  5. University of London - 409 points

Leander Club's dominance throughout the season has been nothing short of extraordinary thanks to their adventurous spirit, bravely exploring the Untamed Realm for quality racing when their home stretch was devoid of healthy waters. With strong performances at Bristol Uni Head, Trent Head, and a spectacular showing today with four three crews in the top 10 at WEHORR they are worthy champions.

🍷 The Chalice of Unity 🍷 - Thames Valley Clubs

For clubs based on the Thames and its tributaries, the Chalice of Unity goes to:

  1. Leander Club - 575 points
  2. Thames Rowing Club - 500 points
  3. London Rowing Club - 458 points

Despite frustrating cancellations throughout the winter Leander Club showed remarkable consistency throughout the frosty months.

🗡️ The Sword of the Untamed Realm 🗡️ - Beyond Thames Valley

For clubs beyond the Thames Valley, the coveted Sword goes to:

  1. Newcastle University - 416 points
  2. Edinburgh University - 254 points
  3. University of York - 254 points

Despite the geographical challenges and long treacherous journeys, Newcastle University demonstrated incredible impact in just two events; dominating at Rutherford Head before solidifying their position today.

📊 Surprising Movers on the Final Day

Today's results caused some dramatic shifts in our leaderboard. Most notably:

  • Oxford Brookes rocketed into 14th place overall thanks to an exceptional WEHORR performance having not raced in a regional event.
  • Headington School pushed ahead of Shiplake and LEH in the Women's table after getting two eights in the top 100!
  • Unfortunately for University of York, they slipped 5 places in the Overall Table but could still hang onto a coveted top 10 after HORR...

💬 From the Coldwater Elders

"What an incredible first season for the Winter Rowing League!" said the mysterious Coldwater Elders. "The level of competition has exceeded all our expectations, with clubs from across the UK embracing the challenge and battling through some truly challenging winter conditions."

"Congratulations to all our Coldwater Queens - you've earned your crown through grit, determination, and exceptional rowing! And for those who didn't make the podium this year... winter is coming again!"

🔜 What's Next?

All eyes now turn to the North of England Head followed by the Men's Head of the River Race on March 22nd, where we'll crown our Coldwater Kings, overall Coldwater Champions and complete our inaugural season. Can Leander CLub achieve the rare triple crown and claim both the Kings, Queens and Overall titles? We'll find out soon!

The complete results table with all clubs and points can be found on our League Table page.
