👑 Coldwater Kings & Overall Crown 2025 - Champions Crowned! 👑
Updated 15:50 - 22nd March 2025
The final strokes have been taken, the last crews have crossed the finish line, and our inaugural Winter Rowing League season has reached its thrilling conclusion! After an exhilarating series of races across Britain's most challenging waterways, we are delighted to announce the Coldwater Kings of 2025 and our Overall Crown Champions!
Today's Men's Head of the River Race (HORR) served as the grand finale for our season, with double points on offer and crews battling fiercely not just for HORR glory, but for those final crucial points to determine our champions.
🏆 The Coldwater Crown 👑 - Overall Champions
After tallying all points from our regional events and both WEHORR and HORR finales, we're thrilled to announce our overall Coldwater Champions:
- Thames - 1194 points
- London - 1128 points
- Leander Club - 1060 points
- Oxford Brookes University Boat Club - 964 points
- Newcastle University - 764 points
The complete results table with all clubs and points can be found on our League Table page.
Thames Rowing Club's remarkable surge from third place to claim both the Overall Crown and the Chalice of Unity has been the story of the season! With consistent performances throughout the winter months and a spectacular showing at HORR with multiple crews in the top positions, they are worthy champions.
🍷 The Chalice of Unity 🍷 - Thames Valley Clubs
For clubs based on the Thames and its tributaries, the Chalice of Unity goes to:
- Thames - 1194 points
- London - 1128 points
- Leander Club - 1060 points
Thames Rowing Club's late surge in the competition with eight eights in the top 7o at HORR demonstrates that persistence and depth can overcome early season dominance. Their strategic approach to the winter season has paid remarkable dividends.
🗡️ The Sword of the Untamed Realm 🗡️ - Beyond Thames Valley
For clubs beyond the Thames Valley, the coveted Sword goes to:
- Newcastle University - 764 points
- University of York - 521 points
- Edinburgh University - 503 points
Newcastle University have held onto the top position from start to finish, their dominance at Rutherford Head back in 2024 providing an unassailable lead that even strong performances from other northern clubs couldn't overcome.
📊 Surprising Movers in the Final Standings
Today's results caused some dramatic shifts in our final leaderboard:
- Oxford Brookes University rocketed up to 4th place overall despite only competing in the two finale events - WEHORR and HORR - showcasing extraordinary quality even with limited participation.
- University of York managed to scalp Edinburgh University in the final standings and cling onto a coveted top 10 position, proving that consistent performance across the season can outweigh sporadic brilliance.
- Thames Rowing Club's surge from 3rd to 1st demonstrates how the double-points finale events can dramatically alter the season's outcome.
